ALIVE LEGACY

Alive Foundation commitment is also the preservation and dissemination of the facts and people related to the episode in the mountains, and cultural activities based on the main values the experience left in the main characters in the mountain and out of the mountain.

For that reason is that the foundation has done and is developing the following activities and projects:

MEMORIAL “UNIÓN, VALOR Y FE EN LOS ANDES”

It is a symbolic representation of the values arising from the story of the plane crash in the Andes. This Memorial is carried out by the Alive Foundation to honour the passengers and the crew who died in the Andes, and as a tribute to those involved in the search for the missing people, and also as a tribute to the survivors who returned safely to their homes.

This Memorial is a sculpture that is being built, it will be installed in the small square located at the intersection of Costa Rica and Schroeder in the neighbourhood of Carrasco, Montevideo, and it will represent a renovation of the surrounding public space.

The initial project was made in 2002 by the survivors of the Andes, to honour the 29 people who were unable to return from the Andes.

The name was proposed by the mothers who are members of the Library “Our Children” and approved by the Municipal Government and the Departmental Board in 2003 who authorized the construction of the Memorial.

Alive Foundation is responsible for the initiative and gives it a broader meaning, encompassing the entire event and its protagonists in the mountains and beyond, in order to “establish a site in memory of the accident and particularly of its victims, in a place that will be accessible to everybody, in the city of Montevideo, and instil a transcendent message based on the values that have inspired the construction of the memorial”.
